Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles incorporate very similar technology – but with a key difference. Both switch seamlessly between two power sources, an efficient petrol engine and a self-charging Hybrid battery, however Plug-in Hybrid vehicles feature a higher capacity battery to deliver greater electric performance when they have been plugged in to charge.
The Prius Plug-in Hybrid can travel exclusively in electric mode for up to 53 miles* - with no tailpipe emissions. If travelling for longer distances and its battery runs out of charge, your vehicle seamlessly switches back to operating as a Hybrid car, combining petrol and regenerated battery power to get you safely to your destination.
Plug-in Hybrids can be economical to own. The low CO2 emissions of Plug-in Hybrids often result in road and company car tax discounts, as well as exemption from city centre charges. And due to less wear to parts like brake pads and discs, they can be cheaper to maintain too.
Toyota Plug-in Hybrid batteries are engineered to last the lifetime of the car. For added peace of mind, every battery comes with a three year / 60,000 miles (whichever comes sooner) warranty which with an annual Hybrid Health Check extends battery cover up to 10 years. When a battery reaches the end of its life, Toyota take back scheme ensure it is dealt with safely and responsibly.
